“We need you to conduct client training.”

“But… I just joined a month ago!”

That was me, fresh out of university, at my first job. Thanks to my team lead Suwarka, who believed in me, I discovered something unexpected: I could dive into new industries faster than I thought!

This is the story of my journey across domains, from Newspapers to Interactive brand activations, and the lessons I’ve learned along the way.

The Big Leaps

After those initial hops, I took on bigger challenges:

  • 🏭 Global Glass Manufacturing: Spent 4 years deep-diving into the complexities of a global industry.
  • 👥 HR Systems: A short but enriching stint that broadened my perspective on people and processes.

But the biggest plot twist was yet to come.

The Plot Twist: Brand Activations in Malaysia

Moving to Malaysia marked a dramatic shift. I entered the world of brand activations, where my familiar territory of software development and hardware like printers and servers transformed into a playground of sensors, projectors, AV equipment, and interactive programs.

Suddenly, I was part event planner, part software project manager and loving every minute of it!

What I’ve Learned

  1. Curiosity is Key: Domain expertise isn’t about knowing everything from day one. It’s about asking questions and staying curious.
  2. Adaptability is a Superpower: The ability to pivot and learn quickly is invaluable in today’s fast-paced world.
  3. Every Industry Has Something to Teach: Whether it’s tea or technology, every domain offers unique insights and skills.

Looking Ahead

Today, I’m thriving in this hybrid role, blending project management with creative problem-solving. The journey has been unpredictable, but it’s taught me to embrace change and find joy in the unknown.

The Takeaway:

Your career doesn’t have to follow a straight path. Sometimes, the most rewarding opportunities come from the most unexpected shifts.
