Me: “Hey, what if we build our house now?”
Him (Lanka): “Shouldn’t we wait until after the wedding?” 🤔
That moment when a random thought becomes your first major Project Management adventure!
The Beginning of the Journey
Armed with zero construction experience but plenty of determination, I dove straight into the world of homebuilding. What started as a casual conversation turned into a full-blown project:
- Bank Loan Research: Navigating the complexities of financing.
- House Designs: From sketches to blueprints, every detail mattered.
- Property Transfers: Ensuring all legalities were in place.
- Land Preparation: Turning an empty plot into a foundation for our dreams.
The initial timeline? June 2019 to November 2019. But as with any project, life had other plans.
The Plot Twists
Just as we got started, challenges began to pile up:
- Family Health Issues: Prioritizing loved ones while keeping the project alive.
- Our Wedding: Balancing wedding preparations with house construction.
- COVID-19 Lockdowns: Delays, uncertainty, and endless waiting.
Yet, every time the lockdowns lifted, we pushed forward. January 2021 marked a milestone: That girl who started with just a thought was now holding the keys to her finished home! 🔑
Key Learnings
This journey taught me invaluable lessons:
- External Factors Will Try to Stop You, Don’t Let Them: Challenges are inevitable, but persistence is key.
- No Experience? No Problem: Research, determination, and a willingness to learn can bridge any knowledge gap.
- Keep Pushing Until You Reach Your Goal: Progress, no matter how slow, is still progress.
